In the organization, all employees play a crucial role to contribute towards the success of the organization. Hence, organizations must understand the importance of their employees and take the necessary steps to retain them.

The people management process can be described as a series of interactions between managers and employees within an organization. It involves identifying, training, retaining, and motivating employees.

Let us now look at the leadership style which involves the steps within an organization. If we look at this process closely then we will realize that every step plays a crucial role in getting desired results from an effective leader.

Let us look at each one of these steps in detail.

Identifying:

Successful leaders are identified by looking at various characteristics like high emotional intelligence, having good knowledge about various aspects of business strategy, and technical skills. These are required for performing well as a leader within an organization.

Identifying the right leaders is very important. if wrong people are selected as leaders then it can affect the performance of the entire organization due to a lack of proper leadership quality.

For example, if a leader lacks good communication skills then it will be difficult for him to interact with his team members and make them work towards achieving set targets. Hence, it is very important for organizations to make sure that they get the right people in their organization.

Training:

Once the leaders are selected, they are trained so that they can perform well in their job roles. Organizations spend a lot of money on developing the management style of their leaders so that they can make maximum utilization of the available resources and generate more profits.

The organizations train their leaders by conducting formal as well as informal training sessions which can be based on theoretical as well as practical approaches. This will help them in developing soft skills and expertise which will be required to perform well in their job roles.

This training is given to new leaders but it is also provided to existing leaders from time to time so that they don’t lose touch with the latest trends and technologies.

Retaining:

Leaders should try and retain all their valuable employees. If an employee leaves the organization then it becomes difficult for them to find a replacement at short notice. There are very few candidates who have required skills and experience required for that particular job role within an organization.

Sometimes, it is not possible for organizations to retain all their employees due to various reasons like some employees may be interested in taking up leadership roles within the organization. Some may have good communication skills and may be interested in joining the sales department or some may want to move to another city for a higher salary.

Hence, people with effective leadership skills need to make sure that they retain their valuable employees. It can be done by providing them with the necessary training and opportunities so that they can perform well and contribute to the success of the organization.

Motivating:

To motivate employees, leaders need to develop strong relationships with them. This will help them in knowing what kind of motivation their employees need. Leaders need to motivate their employees so that they can perform well in their job roles and take desired actions that will help the organization achieve its goals.

If we look at Maslow’s hierarchy of needs then we will realize that an employee has basic needs like food, shelter, etc which are required by him. It needs to be done before he starts thinking about other things like self-esteem, love, etc.

Hence, leaders should try and provide their employees with basic needs so that they can focus on performing well in their job roles rather than thinking about other things.

Conclusion:

These steps and aspects are very important for leaders to understand and perform well in their job roles.

If leaders do not understand these aspects properly then it will be difficult for them to lead their employees in achieving set goals and objectives of the organization. Hence, leaders need to understand these aspects and make sure that they perform well in their jobs.
